Creating impact through AI research

The Flanders AI Research Program was established to advance strategic AI research while supporting the successful adoption of artificial intelligence in Flanders. Beyond scientific excellence, FAIR aims to ensure that research results create value for researchers, companies, governments, non-profit organizations and society as a whole.

FAIR's impact is rooted in collaborative research, validated through use cases and strengthened through adoption activities across academia, industry and society.

FAIR's impact begins with strategic basic research. Through collaboration across eleven research partners, researchers develop new knowledge, methods and technologies that advance the international state of the art in artificial intelligence. These results are subsequently validated through use cases, translated into practical tools and demonstrators, and further developed through collaboration with external partners.

The resulting impact extends beyond scientific publications. FAIR contributes to the growth of the Flemish AI ecosystem through collaborative innovation projects, industry engagement, public funding initiatives, entrepreneurship, talent development and international visibility. Together, these activities help ensure that investments in AI research translate into tangible benefits for people, society, industry and the economy.
