Interactive Grid Congestion Forecasting (Pythia2GIS)

This project enhances the Pythia congestion-forecasting platform with an operational dashboard and geographic visualizations that help grid operators explore and interpret predictions.

The project has successfully enhanced Pythia (i.e. congestion forecasting pipeline software) with a more user-friendly operational dashboard designed for European grid operators. Thanks to a restructuring of the underlying data architecture, the initial challenge of dispersed data storage across multiple databases and parquet files was resolved. Rather than pursuing a one-size-fits-all approach, the system has been successfully adapted to accommodate local variations in language, terminology, and grid data structures. The completed system delivers improved Geographic Information System (GIS) visualization capabilities and enhanced result processing features, with optimized data querying and merging mechanisms that enable smooth visualizations and rapid data exploration. The delivered dashboard enables grid operators to effectively monitor and analyze both day-ahead and long-term congestion predictions, supporting better utilization of grid assets in the context of increasing electric car, heat pump, and solar panel adoption.
